Block Wall CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) Thermography

Non-invasive, non-destructive grout placement verification

Picture
Block Wall (Concrete Masonry Unit, CMU) inspections can be performed at any point during the construction process, and while the building is occupied. Our Block Wall Thermography Inspection Services are used to determine or verify grout placement within the wall.

How Does it Work?

Our Lead Thermographer uses a high resolution Thermal Imaging Camera (FLIR E96, 640x480 resolution), field experience, and knowledge as a Level 3 Thermographer to capture, interpret, and report his infrared findings to you.

So, how does Block Wall Thermography work? Infrared Cameras read the surface temperature of objects. The vacant air space of un-grouted cells will heat and cool much more quickly than the grouted cells, creating a thermal gradient between the CMU blocks. Understanding Infrared Science as well as the thermodynamic properties of your building is crucial to providing you with accurate data.

The above image was taken mid-day. By looking into the image, you will see white represents warmer colors while gray to black on the scale is indicative of cooler temperatures. Knowing this, our Lead Thermographer can infer the bright white cells are un-grouted, and the solid, cooler part of the wall is retaining the cool morning air.

What are the Benefits of having an Infrared Block Wall Inspection Performed?

Thermal Imaging is Non-Destructive

Picture
Block Wall Thermography Inspections are completely non-invasive and non-destructive to your building. Traditional methods are destructive and require invasive testing.

Infrared Scans are Non-Disruptive

Infrared Block Wall Inspections can be performed at any point in the construction process, and are completely hands-off. Whether the building is under construction, like the one pictured above, or occupied, Block Wall Thermal Imaging is sure to produce the results you need.

Mitigate Liability

Picture
Mitigate liability in the event of a building collapse by having an up to date report, verifying grout placement, on record.

Verify Structural Integrity

Picture
During construction or after completion, use infrared imaging to confirm your building is structurally sound by comparing the thermal findings to the building specifications.

Attention Contractors! Asset Management

Picture
Check the progression of the installation of materials using infrared (IR). Correct worker technique in real-time to avoid costly mistakes like grout overflow and material mismanagement.
