Moisture Intrusion Thermography

Investigative Thermography screening for the point of entry and extent of moisture damage.

Picture
Moisture Intrusion Thermography services with Infrared Thermal Inspections, LLC, are used to discover the point of entry in many building materials and types. Thermography brings to light the extent of moisture damage as well as gives a starting point for repairs through investigative testing.

How Does it Work?

Our Lead Thermographer uses a high resolution Thermal Imaging Camera (FLIR E96, 640x480 resolution), field experience, and knowledge as a Level 3 Thermographer to capture, interpret, and report his infrared findings to you.

So, how does Moisture Intrusion Thermography work? Infrared Cameras read the surface temperature of objects. When building materials are wet, their surface temperature will become warmer or cooler than the surrounding, undamaged material. Thermal imaging is faster than traditional discovery methods. When paired with a moisture meter for confirmation, thermal images of moisture intrusion create a well rounded and easily understandable report.

The above image was taken mid-day. By looking into the image, you will see white represents warmer colors while purple to black on the scale is indicative of cooler temperatures. Knowing this, our Lead Thermographer can infer the brick containing moisture from the recent rainfall has retained the cooler temperature from the morning air, while the sunbaked bricks with no moisture are beginning to heat up around it.

What are the Benefits of having a Moisture Intrusion Thermography Inspection Performed?

Pinpoint the Entry of Moisture Intrusion

Moisture damage in the ceiling of a home (blue - purple) settling above a light fixture.
When water infiltrates a building, it does not always move in a way you would expect. Water follows the path of least resistance  - that path can be hard to trace! Using thermal imaging, moisture intrusion is easily found - see the above image.

Repair Confirmation

Confirm repairs have been successfully made by using thermal imaging to visualize moisture.

Visualize the Extent of Damage

Don't pay for moisture remediation and repairs for areas unaffected by the moisture intrusion. Visualize the exact extent of damage to your building - don't pay for more than you have to!

Insurance Claims and Thermography

Pictured is a thermal image showing the extent of damage on a four-story hotel building. This building underwent extreme moisture damage when the sprinkler system consecutively froze, burst, and poured down on all four floors. Using Moisture Intrusion Thermography Services, the insurance adjuster onsite was able to give  a much more realistic figure for remediation.
